How we pick a first printer

Home Print is a buying brief for one US spare-room office — not a test lab, not Epson’s marketing site, and not a roundup of every SKU in a big-box flyer.

What we do

Start from monthly pages and whether you will scan, not from “best printer 2026.”
Separate ink architecture (tank, cartridge, subscription) from brand loyalty.
Treat Epson EcoTank as the default in this set because we have a CJ relationship to disclose — then argue with that default in public.
Send readers to sister sites when the honest default is HP (Office Kit) or Canon office imaging (Office Print).
Link the merchant homepage. No invented yields, street prices, or coupons.

What we refuse

No fake star ratings, “editor’s choice” badges, or made-up page-per-minute tests.
No pretending we ran ISO yield tests in a garage.
No impersonating Epson support, firmware, or the EcoTank wordmark as if we owned it.
No hiding that an EcoTank printhead is typically a service event, not a $20 user part.

Who this is for

You are standing up a one-person US office or you finally admitted the leftover photo inkjet is a paperweight. You print documents. You might scan a signed W-9. You do not need a 40-page-per-minute departmental copier and you do not need borderless 13×19 fine-art output. If that last sentence is wrong, leave this site.

Photographers who sell prints should not use our EcoTank default as a color-managed workflow. That is a different printer, a different paper path, and a different budget. Home Print will not pretend otherwise to capture a click.

What “default: Epson EcoTank” means

If you want one outbound click for a tank printer aimed at homes and small offices, we point at Epson. 4 Life Health Wealth LLC may earn a commission (CJ 4071998, 2%). The default matches a program we are applying to. We still say when a subscription HP (see Office Kit) is cheaper at tiny volume, and when a Canon tank or MAXIFY belongs on Office Print instead.

EcoTank is a family, not a single SKU. US model numbers shift. Some have ADF, some do not. Some duplex, some do not. Some are photo-leaning, some are document-leaning. We will not freeze a model name here as if it were eternal. You read the current US product page for the feeder, Ethernet, and paper size you need.

Signals we trust

Ink architecture stated clearly (bottles vs cartridges vs subscription).
Whether duplex print is automatic, and whether the ADF is simplex or duplex.
Paper path: cassette vs rear tray, legal-size support if you use it.
Connectivity that matches the room: Wi-Fi is enough for most spare rooms; Ethernet matters more on the office sister site.
Vendor documentation for included in-box ink — treated as marketing until you confirm the SKU.

We ignore banner “up to X pages” without the test standard, marketplace star averages, and any site (including this one, if we slip) that posts a price as if it were a contract.

Corrections

Firmware locks, Instant Ink terms, and EcoTank model numbers all move. Email gary@4lifehealthwealth.com if a family name or a feature claim is wrong. We would rather update a paragraph than defend a printer we do not stock.
